Please add more details about this hurdle to effective social media adoption and use here
Why is this a problem? Please provide details and links to resources which help make the case for the importance of overcoming this hurdle
Video and audio a big part of the social web. If staff cannot listen to audio or watch videos they may:
Miss user generated content from citizens with important points in;
Be unable to access online learning content, lectures of online conference;
Not be able to access an authority or organisations own PR and publicity materials - which are increasingly being created as online video etc.
How can we overcome this hurdle? Ideas, links, resources & shared learning about your experiences of this particular hurdle are encouraged and welcome.
Find a number of resources that staff are unable to access without sound and show these to decision makers.
You might find the following resources useful:
If computers do have soundcards in and the ability to play sound, but no speakers - suggest that
a short lead could be used to make it easy to plug in headphones from the front of the machine - so staff can choose to bring in (or get from their own dept budgets) cheap headphones in order to use the sound on their computers.
It may be neccessary to agree a policy on whether or not staff can use the sound feature of computers to play their own music - or whether staff are encouraged to use their own
MP3 players if they want to play music at work.
Colleagues in the Voluntary Sector looking at procuring ICT equipment may find the ICT Hub Guide to
Buying and Commissioning ICT to be a useful resource.
Overcoming this barrier may take a while. Are there any ways staff can work-around this barrier effectively until more permenant solutions are in place?
